An Evolutionary View of Family Conflict and Cooperation

چکیده

What can we expect our evolutionary history to tell us about human reproductive and family life? Each of us is a descendant of an unbroken line of males and females who survived to adulthood and somehow managed to mate and produce at least one offspring who also survived to adulthood, mated, and so on. For most economists, the hypothesis that human preferences are designed to maximize reproductive success even over some long horizon seems so unlikely as to receive no consideration at all. Indeed the axiomatic foundations of economists’ consumer theory would give little offense to the most devout of creationists. If pressed on this question, scientifically inclined economists tend to take the view that we humans are different from the rest of the animal ∗Theodore C. The Lobbying, Bribery, and Compliance: An Evolutionary Model of Social Factors

Abstract Connecting to rule-makers in order to set favorable rules (lobbying) or paying government executives to bend the current rule (bribing) are the two main strategies for influencing government. This study in an evolutionary game model explain why bribing may become widespread while other states like compliance and cooperative lobbying are Pareto superior. The theoretical model is used ...

Investigating the method of achieving technology upstream of Iran's oil and gas industry using game theory in two modes of cooperation (transfer) and non-cooperation (independence)

Access to technology in the upstream oil and gas industry is one of the most challenging issues. In this industry, in order to be able to apply the desired effects of technology in the economic and development dimension, in the decision-making process, the choice to acquire technology must be such as to avoid repeating the ineffective approaches of the past. However, the most divisive And expli...

Nuclear–mitochondrial epistasis: a gene's eye view of genomic conflict

We use population genetic models to investigate the cooperative and conflicting synergistic fitness effects between genes from the nucleus and the mitochondrion. By varying fitness parameters, we examine the scope for conflict relative to cooperation among genomes and the utility of the "gene's eye view" analytical approach, which is based on the marginal average fitness of specific alleles. Be...

Cooperation and Conflict in the Evolution of Complexity

The basic problem in an evolutionary transition in complexity is to understand how a group of individuals becomes a new kind of individual, having heritable variation in fitness at the new level of organization. We see the formation of cooperative interactions among lower-level individuals as a necessary step in evolutionary transitions; only cooperation transfers fitness from lower levels (cos...
